**Shit’s still broke**

I ordered a new coil pack, but did not have a chance to swap it before I went on a two week vacation. I will not be touching it this weekend because a good friend conveniently scheduled his bachelor party in Portland, after my many requests to do it a weekend later. I do not feel like getting on another plane after flying ~47000 miles in the past two weeks, but here we are. It will be fun regardless! Hopefully I can get to it a week from Friday, and I really hope the coil is what is causing the issue. It was cheap and easy to swap so it seemed like a good starting point. I honestly don’t remember how long ago it was when I went on my last proper drive. I am in serious withdrawals. Let’s all hope the next update includes pictures of a hot redhead on a curvy road.

I woke up early this morning to meet Wrong Wheel Drive and GolfR Guy for a nice Saturday drive on Angel’s Crest Hwy. Started the 348 and proceeded to play musical cars to get the car out of the garage (had to move the bug out of the driveway, the 348 onto the street, then the bug back into the garage.) Everything seemed fine. I get about 3 blocks away from my house and my car starts running like shit. It seems like one bank is dead. ****. I pull into a neighborhood and the car dies. The worst crosses my mind and I go into full blown panic. I get out and look under the hood and there aren’t any massive leaks or anything so I try to start the car. It fires up but is still missing like crazy. I limp home, it dying every time I put it in neutral. After I get it back into the garage, I do a quick inspection for unplugged connections / any other obvious problems. No luck. I say screw it and take my pretty un-fun diesel economy car to the drive.

I still had a great time with the other oppos, but was bummed I couldn’t take the 348. GolfR Guy graciously gave me a ride to the top. Riding in a Golf R is more fun than piloting an old ass tdi beetle. That car just sticks and the DSG seems pretty magical.

Oh well. Hopefully I can figure out the problem and get it back on the road soon. Just old Italian car shit, I guess.

For sure! It was much better than my car breaking and not getting to hang out with oppos. Everyone I've met from here has been good people. Plus, you really can't complain when you wake up and the sun is shining

Don’t feel too bad. I fired up my old Japanese bike today and it wouldn’t idle worth a shit. At full tilt she screamed, but wouldn’t idle. I just rode her six days ago and everything was top notch. Oy vey.

Something must be going around. GolfR guy’s bike is doing the same thing yours is. Does make me feel better it’s not just the Italians having issues haha. Hopefully you can get it diagnosed and fixed !

Where would we be without diesel truck noises and Choo Choo train turbo whistles? I think you need to find a way to make it louder, I legitimately love the noises your Beetle makes. I’m thinking full chugga chugga Choo Choo shit.

Haha that’s what I’ll blame it on! Also, last time I took my car up there, my condenser started to leak. I think my car just doesn’t like that road

You can’t forget all that “ clean diesel” exhaust it emits! And thanks, I actually do too. It was fantastic when I ran it with only a down pipe. My university was sometimes on the FedEx flight path. My turbo noises were as loud as the MD-11'S flying overhead. It was exhausting on a road trip, but so worth it on fun drives. I also had summer tires, not completely worn out suspension, less carbon build up, and fewer boost leaks. The car was actually pretty fun like that. Oh to be young with a car that had 100k less miles again. Le sigh. Lmao

The intake is a pita bc it's under the cowl, against the firewall. And bushings are always a pain lol

Thank goodness it’s not Poland! Or maybe that would be better. I would for sure say no to that. Portland is close enough that I don’t have too many excuses other than time/money after my huge trip.

If it has one coil pack per bank (very likely), and you can feel as if one whole side isn’t firing, then yeah, it should be the coil pack.

You can test this by going to unplug the wire on one back and trying to ground it somewhere and see if you get spark.

Yep, one per side. Sounded and felt like it was down a bank, then overheated the cat on one side and smelled like gas. Seems like it isn’t getting spark. I was trying to test out the coil idea before I left but ran out of time. The coil was only $50 so I rolled the dice.

I thought it was supposed to go back to the shop because it wasnt actually broken before it went there, meaning something was likely botched by them. Unless it coincidentally broke at the same time? I guess swapping a coil is easier than bringing it in again though. And that I am sure is the next step anyways if it doesnt fix the issue. Ideally it wont require engine out service is all you can hope lol.

I *think* it was just unfortunate timing. Going to change the pack before I bring it up with the shop. It did run fine during the drive I took after the shop, and it ran fine, albeit for a short amount of time (5-10 min), before it suddenly didn’t. We’ll see though.

between school, homework, weather, bike being broken and just life in general, I havent had the chance to take the daytona out for a GOOD ride/rip  in a month . I rode it to and from work here and there.

Weather was an issue for me as well, even in “sunny” SoCal. There was a stretch where every weekend I was home, it was raining. Then a few issues popped up that I procrastinated for a bit before taking it to the shop. Then something else broke -_-. I can’t watch your video now, but I’ll give you a follow here in a sec and check it out later! I bet it was glorious getting a few braps in!
